Today we want to introduce another speaker of this year’s Security Forum. His name is Georg Beham and he will speak about Getting rich without leaving the house – Cyber Crime as a business. Unfortunately the abstract is only available in German. You can find it here:
Due to the increased digitalization of our everyday lives, cybercrime has also become much more important in recent years. Every day, countless attacks are carried out via the internet, both automated and targeted. Companies worldwide, regardless of size or industry, are attacked and sometimes successfully infected. Studies show that cybercrime is more profitable and less risky for criminals than other areas of crime such as drug trafficking.
Austrian companies are also victims of cybercrime. Attackers are often able to steal valuable data, such as the results of years of research work, customer data or financial data from the company or even carry out manipulations that impair production or divert cash flows. In recent years, KPMG has been able to observe and analyze several cases of cybercrime at Austrian companies. Similar procedures and similar structures have often been identified in these cybercrime incidents.
In this presentation, the structures of cybercrime are presented, how they generate profits and the extent to which this sometimes happens. This presentation will also take a closer look at the threats, with a special focus on Austrian companies, and show how companies can protect themselves against this ever-growing threat. Scenarios will be presented and described in more detail using examples from the experience gained in the incident response area.
After this presentation, participants will be familiar with the structures, business models and threats posed by cybercrime and will understand how they can protect themselves against this organized crime in the future.
